What Happens During the Session

A typical initial consultation lasts 60 to 90 minutes. Here is a general outline of what to expect:

Health history review. Your consultant will ask about your pregnancy, delivery, and any previous breastfeeding experience. They will also ask about your baby's birth weight, current weight, and feeding patterns.
Observation of a feeding. You will be asked to nurse or bottle-feed your baby so the consultant can observe latch, positioning, and your baby's sucking pattern.
Oral assessment of the baby. The consultant may gently check your baby's mouth for tongue-tie or other structural issues that could affect feeding.
Weighted feed (if needed). Your baby may be weighed before and after a feeding to estimate how much milk was transferred.

How to Prepare
